Reconciliation

Checking their numbers against yours, line by line.

What it means for your money

When the carrier's schedule comes back, it is a per-item response to your list — some lines matched, some repriced, some depreciated harder than you expected, some missing. Reconciliation is going through it line by line to find which is which.

The total is the wrong thing to argue about. A settlement that looks roughly right in aggregate can contain a dozen lines that were repriced downward for reasons nobody stated, and those are only visible per line.

Where the number comes from

Compare the carrier's schedule against your own list on the same axis: item, quantity, replacement cost, depreciation, actual cash value. Differences fall into repriced, re-depreciated, and absent.

Compare their schedule against your list
See this on three lines of a returned schedule
Desk — you listed $600, they returned $600
Matched
Rug — you listed $850, they returned $300
Repriced
Bookshelf — you listed $220, not on their schedule
Absent

Only two of these three need a conversation, and neither is visible from the total. The absent line is the one most easily lost, because nothing on their paperwork mentions it.

Reconciliation sits next to loss report, depreciation and actual cash value. They tend to arrive together.

Indemnia builds the itemized list this all gets applied to, with the receipt attached to the line it proves. See how it works.
